JAMMU: Hitting out hard at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government for the ongoing impasse over the three farm laws, senior Congress leader and Vice President of District Congress Committee for Jammu Urban, Rajkumar Goyal on Thursday said that the government acknowledge the directions passed by the Supreme Court and must show some seriousness toward resolving the farmers protest. He also demanded compensation for families of those farmers who lost their lives in the ongoing protests.“Tens of lakhs of the farmers across the country are protesting for the last two and a half months for repeal of three farm laws aiming to snatch their right over their own lands. Now in a massive blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party, even the supreme court has stayed the implementation of new farm laws till further orders,” said Goyal in a statement issued today. “The honourable Supreme Court faulted the government for framing the agricultural laws without enough consultation, which resulted in the ongoing protest. It also held the centre responsible for the deaths of protesting farmers. Any self-respecting government must accept its faults and strive for a resolution,” he said. However, even after all this, the Centre is still adamant on the farm laws and that shows that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s claim of providing ‘pro-people’ governance has now been exposed, said Goyal. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government has failed miserably to address the issues affecting the common masses. The farmers of my country are protesting on the roads, in this biting cold for so long,” he said.“The government has the blood of 60 farmers on its hands, who have died due to accidents, suicide, or other reasons ever since the farmers began their protest on the Delhi borders from Nov 26 last year,” said Goyal and demanded compensation for their kins. “The government must announce ex-gratia compensation for the families of these farmers, who sacrificed their lives in these protests,” he said.
