JAMMU: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on hit out at the BJP Govt for expressing its inability in providing compensation to COVID-19 affected families. He said that while one cannot fix a cost for someone’s life, the compensation is only a small help.First the lack of treatment in the COVID epidemic, then the false statistics and now the cruelty of the government over that said Bhalla. He slammed Centre submitting before the Supreme Court that ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh cannot be paid to the families of those who have died of COVID-19 saying that it is beyond fiscal affordability. The Modi government contended that the finances of central and state governments are under severe strain due to COVID-19. He said Govt has lost all sense of balance & responsibility towards people. He reminded Govt that it had told the Supreme Court that the issues raised in the pleas, seeking directions for ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4,00,000 to the kins of those who died of COVID-19, are genuine and are under consideration of the government.Like other promises in the past broken by BJP government at the centre refusing to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation to families of COVID victims is no surprise at all.The Congress leader also alleged that the government has been incompetent in providing treatment during the pandemic and of being insensitive. The situation has improved a lot since then with the country reporting 53,256 new COVID-19 cases today, its fewest in 88 days as the second wave of infections appear to be ebbing. “To cover with a veil of secrecy, the common routine business is not in the interest of the public. Such secrecy can seldom be legitimately desired,” he said.Bhalla claimed that there is strong resentment among people of Jammu region towards BJP which has miserably failed to address even basic issues of the people of the area. While interacting with people of Raina Colony of Gandhi Nagar constituency, Bhalla listen to various day to day problems being faced by the public in the absence of any elected Govt said that the onus is on the BJP which got huge mandate in the last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections as well as the current Lok Sabha elections besides being the ruling party at the Centre and State being under direct Central rule.He said that majority of people maintained that no new developments but only facelifts of previous works were done in the area.“BJP was in power at the Centre and in the erstwhile J&K State too, it was easy for the party to forward issues of common masses through their Government in the State to the Union Ministry concerned, for mitigating the sufferings of people but they took them casually,” Bhalla said. He pointed out that there was total chaos and confusion among people as BJP leadership has failed to remove peoples’ apprehensions.
