JAMMU: J&K UT administration has failed to implement New Sports Policy in set time period, due to which a number of international/national level players and medalists are suffering from last 7 years. As per a joint press statement issued by a number of players on Friday, they said that on March 23, 2021; Government constituted a committee to revise criteria for short-listing outstanding sports persons for appointment under sports quota in terms of Jammu and Kashmir (Appointment of Outstanding Sports persons) Rules, 1998, which has to submit its reports within a month, but unfortunately the report has not been submitted till date. They further said that since 2014, Sports Council has not recruited a single player under Sports Quota. Athletes, who represented India and J&K Jammu Kashmir at International / National levels are suffering from last 7 years, they added. The players urged LG to direct the concerned committee to submit its report as early as possible, so that they can get jobs under SRO-349.The signatories to the statement included Rajinder Singh (Wushu), Arvind Satti (Taekwondo), Ajay Karthol (Fencing) and Akbar Khan (Cycling).
