Govt committed to channelise energy of youth towards positive direction: Advisor Farooq


All Stars Jourian wins Shaheed Lt Thakur Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament


JAMMU: The UT administration is committed to provide best avenues and infrastructure to the sports-loving youth of Jammu and Kashmir to channelize their energy towards positive direction.
This was stated on Sunday by Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Khan while addressing the valedictory cum prize distribution function of Shaheed Lt. Thakur Dass Memorial Cricket Tournament organised by Akhnoor Sports Club at Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor.
At the outset, the Advisor along with President, Secretary and other members of the Sports Club paid tributes to martyr Lt. Thakur Dass at the memorial site.
While speaking on the occasion, the Advisor said that Thakur Dass Sharma was the brave son of the soil who gave the supreme sacrifice for his motherland and got martyred on 12 September 1965.
The Advisor saluted him for his bravery and supreme sacrifice and exhorted upon the youth to follow his footsteps with a pledge to safeguard the honour of the nation.
The Advisor also appealed to the youth to put in hard work in their respective fields and remain away from social evils to achieve desired goals adding that a proactive approach and public participation is vital for a prosperous society and nation.
The Advisor stressed on the need to encourage the youth to take up sports for developing a leadership quality and character building for a prosperous and successful future.
While presenting the cash awards of Rs 25000 to the winning and Rs 15000 to runner-up teams, the Advisor motivated the young generation to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities. He stressed on the need to create bigger platforms for young sportsmen to display their talent and skills besides promoting the local talent at higher level.
The Advisor also appreciated the Club for promotion of sports activities in Akhnoor and other adjoining areas as salutation to the brave son of the soil by providing assistance in promoting various outdoor as well as indoor games.
Ex-MLA Akhnoor, Rajeev Sharma was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

Secy ASC), Vishnu Kant Sharma (Chairman Thakur Dass Memorial Tournament), Raj Pal Sharma, Dr. Gagan Singh, Dr. Tilak Raj Gupta, Jugal Gupta, Jagpal Sharma, Raman Gupta, Suresh Gupta, Sonu Malhotra, Jimmy Manni, Rajinder Sharma, Parveen Kumar, Kuldeep Kour and large gathering of spectators.
Earlier, All Stars Jourian beat Northern Cricket Club by 14 runs in the final and lifted the trophy of Shaheed Lieutenant Thakur Dass Memorials Cricket Tournament organized by Akhnoor Sports Club at Government Higher Secondary School Akhnoor, here.
All Stars Jourian, batting first after winning the toss, scored 228 runs by losing five wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Ishtiaq played a brilliant inning of 93 runs of 47 balls followed by Rahul, who also played well and made 54 runs off 22 balls. Robin added 25 off 12 balls to the total. For Northern Club, Aadil and Sunny grabbed two wickets each while Ankush got one.
In reply, Northern Club failed to chase the target and managed to score only 215 runs for the loss of eight wicket in 20 over. Bhanu played a fine knock of 84 runs off 39) balls but all in vain as team lost the match by 14 runs. Lakhan (48 off 30), Puneet (21off 12) an Tasser (19 off 10 balls) were the other main scorers. From bowling side, Jattin grabbed three wickets, Monu and Latto scalped two wickets each and Ishtiaq got one wicket.
Ishtiaq was declared as Man of the Match for his excellent performance with bat and ball, whereas Rahul Sharma was adjudged as Man of the Series and best batsman while Jatin Wadhwanwas declared as best bowler,
Dayal Singh & Vikas Bali were Umpires and Rohit Kumar, Sushil Gupta & Arjun Kumar. acted as scorers of the today’s match.
