GDC Ramgarh organises webinar on ‘Consumerism & Environment’


RAMGARH: To commemorate 75 years of India’s struggle “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, Government Degree College, Ramgarh organised an open webinar on the topic ‘Consumerism and Environment on Saturday. The webinar was organised under the guidance of Sushma Chauhan, Secretary to Government Higher Education Department UT of J&K and under the patronage of Principal of the college Dr. Meeru Abrol.
Research scholars of University of Jammu and Central University of Jammu as well as students of different colleges attended the open webinar. The webinar was organised to aware the students about the impact of consumerism on the resources of Environment. As the population of the world is increasing year by year with high standard of living in developed countries, the consumption pattern also increases which negatively affect the natural resources of our environment. Minali Deep, Department of EVS delivered the welcome address. Principal of the college Dr.Meeru Abrol in her address about the topic highlighted that consumerism plays a big role in climate change and hence environment. Consumption of goods is obviously a function of our culture. She also added that more production leads to more purchases, progress, prosperity and hence economic growth. On the other hand, it also affects our environment by extractions from its natural resources and in turn its pollution.
Dr. Deepak Pathania, Assistant Professor (EVS), Govt. SPMR College of commerce Jammu was the Resource person of this online webinar. She discussed, what is consumerism, how consumerism is affecting the environment, consumerism and ecological or carbon footprint and how we should follow eco-friendly consumerism for the sustainable use of natural resources. She delivered the lecture with interesting day to day examples and made the whole lecture interesting.
At the last, the event was concluded by Prof. Seema Sharma, Convenor, Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava programmes through a formal vote of thanks. The event was coordinated by Prof. Seema Sharma and Minali Deep under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol.
