JAMMU: The Psychological Counselling Cell, Career Counselling cell and Placement cell of Government Degree College Paloura organised online Extension Lecture on the theme “Anger Management in Adolescents” under the able guidance of Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Principal of the college. The extension lecture was aimed to acquaint the students about effects of anger on mental wellbeing of the individuals. Around hundred students and teachers joined online platform Google Meet to attend the lecture.
Dr. Rachna Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, Government Degree College (Boys) Kathua was the speaker on the occasion. Dr. Rachna highlighted the various psychological, social and emotional causes which trigger anger among the individuals. She also pointed about various myths associated with the anger and maintained that anger is an adjustment mechanism and it becomes a problem when it is felt too intensely and then expressed inappropriately. She reiterated that stress level, exam pressure, substance abuse, temperament and sleeping disorders are the most common causes which lead to anger problems in adolescents. She stressed that anger can be managed if a person is able to recognize irrational thoughts, control and sublimate it. One should not feel hesitation in seeking professional help if it is very intense. Building good social relationships, doing meditation and indulging in creative activities such as diary writing, painting, singing can have positive impact on the overall mental well being of the adolescents and society on the whole.
Prof. Pooja Sharma compered the proceedings of the programme and Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Vishal Sharma. The whole programme was coordinated by Dr. Shivani Sharma.
