KATHUA: In a sequel to the Khelo India and Fit India Movement, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, Department of Physical Education and Sports, Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua on Saturday organized a first Intra-mural Kabaddi Tournament in the college ground, here.
The aim of organizing intra-mural was to provide an opportunity to the students who are physically fit but do not take part in sports.
The Intra-mural was inaugurated by the Principal GDC Kathua Prof. Assa Ram Sharma, who also appreciated the efforts made by the Physical Education and Sports Department for channelising and motivating the students to take part in sporting activities under the supervision of his Physical Director Dr J.S Soodan.
He also praised the students for their active participation in sports.
The participating team’s were NCC (Boys), B Sc (Non-Medical), B.A (Boys), Boys Hostel (A) and (B) and in the girls section, there were two teams Physical Education and NCC.
The intra-mural started with the match between NCC boys and Hostel Boys team. NCC boys won the toss and elected to raid and won the match by eight points. The second match was held between Arts Department (Boys) and B.Sc. (Non-Medical), in which B.SC (Non- Medical) won the match by 13 points. The final match was played between the NCC and B.Sc (Non-Medical), in which B.Sc (Non-Medical) won the match by 14 points.
The Final match in girls section was played between the Physical Education and the NCC Girls Wing where NCC girls teams won the match by five points.
The matches were officiated by the official team of GDC Kathua. The runner-up and the winner trophies were distributed by Principal Prof. Assa Ram Sharma.
Others among the faculty, who were present Prof. Jasvinder Singh, HOD Physics, Prof Raj Kiran, Dr. Rachna, Prof Dr. Amrik Singh, Dr Verinder Singh, Dr. J S Soodan (Physical Directer), Prof Jagdish Lal and Prof Mehak Negi.
