KATHUA: A technical workshop cum awareness camp was organised by Government Degree College (Boys) Kathua on Friday in collaboration with Coordination Cell, Higher Education Department and Grassroot Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN) on the establishment of Institutional Innovation and Incubation Centre in the college. The programme also aimed at spreading awareness among students and commoners about the importance of finding viable and innovative ideas for solving societal and technological problems and converting these ideas into economical viable business solutions enabling them to become job providers instead of job seekers.
The programme was presided over by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Talat PArvez Rohella as Chief Guest through virtual mode. Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, HED was the Guest of Honour, while Director Colleges, HED Prof. M. Y. Peerzada was the Special Guest on the occasion. Guard of Honour was given to the dignitaries on their arrival in the college by 1st J&K Naval Unit under the guidance of Dr.Amrik Singh, ANO of the Unit.
The workshop started with Lighting of Traditional Lamp by esteemed Guests along with principal of the college and senior faculty members Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Shub, Prof. Rajkiran, Prof. Rakesh Singh and Dr. Suraya Partap Singh, Coordinator, I3C, followed by felicitation of dignitaries with floral bouquets. Prof. Assa Ram Sharma, Principal of the college delivered a Welcome address in which he formally welcomed the dignitaries who were present in the workshop and also those who had joined the workshop through virtual mode.
A highly informative and inspiring talk was presented by Dr. Pankaj Mehta, President, IIC, Central University of Jammu on Innovation, Incubation Entrepreneurship during which he deliberated at length on the developing and grooming ideas into innovation and ultimately converting them into viable business prospects. Onkar Singh, a young innovator, Guinness Book Record holder as youngest webmaster and Bal Shakti Puraskar Awardee shared his journey of success as innovator with the audience and inspired students through his ideas on innovation and how age is no bar for being an entrepreneur.
An Ideation workshop was also conducted by members of GIAN, Sayed Nadeem and Sabzar Ahmad Wani during the event which involved Ideation and Idea Pitching with the students and grassroot workers present in the programme.
Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, HED and Guest of Honour of the event, in his concluding remarks, stressed upon the role of empowered faculty to run these incubation centres and conceptualize the ideas based on the local challenges and global competencies.
The event was concluded with formal vote of thanks by Dr.Suraya Partap Singh, Coordinator, Centre for Institutional Innovation and Incubation, Govt. Degree College (Boys) Kathua. The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof.Neha Bandral. Technical support for the event was provided by Prof. Anoop Sharma and his team. Among others who attended the programme were faculty members of college Prof. Jasvinder Singh, Prof. Seema Malpotra, Prof.Rajkiran Prof. Shub Kumar, Prof. Rakesh Singh, Prof. Pawan Kumar, Dr. Kehar Singh, Prof. Rajesh Kumar, Prof. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Amrik Singh, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Prof. Pinkey, Dr. Balbinder Singh, Dr. Verinder Singh, Prof. Reetika, Prof. Shikha. Principals of Degree Colleges of Kathua district also graced the occasion.
