Gang selling stolen vehicles busted; 3 arrested, vehicles recovered

SRINAGAR: Police on Friday busted a gang involved in selling stolen vehicles in Awantipora, arrested three accused and recovered stolen vehicles from their possession.
As per details, Awantipora Police received information that some persons are luring customers by selling vehicles at quite cheaper rates than actual price. Preliminary investigation revealed that some persons in Awantipora are involved in selling stolen vehicles to customers at cheaper rates, which have been stolen from other states of country. The accused were identified as Mohammad Shafi Dar, son of Gh Mohammad, resident of Lethpora; Shameem Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Rajab Bhat, resident of Lethpora and Abdul Rashid Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohi ud Din, resident of Lelhar Kakpora. They were arrested and shifted to Police Station Awantipora where they remained under custody. Three stolen vehicles (1 Scorpio, 2 Alto K10) have also been recovered from their possession. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 188/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora. Further investigation into the matter is under progress and more arrests/ recoveries are expected in coming days.
The modus operandi of accused persons was to lift vehicles then affixing fake number plates on them, which normally exists on same type of vehicle to make lifted vehicles similar to registered genuine vehicle, for misguide law and enforcing agencies as well as gullible general public.
