DOST KHAN PART-III / ANCHOR
JAMMU: In his desperation over the Congress losing elections, one after another, and in the enthusiasm to show down the Prime Minister, the former president and the sitting Member Parliament of the grand old party Rahul Gandhi feels no shame in aligning with the chronic enemy of India and the rogue nation in the backyards, Pakistan.Indian Parliament repealed the temporary provisions of Article 370 and Article 35A, granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019. The political move and the core BJP agenda created more uproar in the opposition parties than in just one of the three parts of the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. To take on Narendra Modi, the then Congress President raised hue and cry over human rights violations in the Valley, notwithstanding the fact that not a single person lost life after the historic step. Such was the criticism of Rahul Gandhi and his leaders in the Congress that Pakistan referred to them and their statements in her petition to the United Nations. Pakistan used the statement of Rahul Gandhi in a letter to 18 UN Procedures mandate-holders in what Islamabad kept crying hoarse and claiming to be human rights violations in Kashmir. The letter reads: “While the violations discussed above represent only a fraction of the total horrifying violations being committed by the State of India against the Kashmir people, they are an apt illustration of the intensity of the conflict and gravity of rights violations currently on-going in the region. Recently, Rahul Gandhi, President of the Congress party, and several other Indian opposition leaders were forcibly returned from Srinagar Airport to New Delhi”.Those keeping track over the moves and machinations of the Congress since it lost the Delhi throne were not surprised over Rahul Gandhi providing leverage to Islamabad to hammer India. Gandhi clan confidant and former Congress minister Mani Shankar Aiyar had sought for the removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to solve the Kashmir dispute during his visit to Islamabad in 2015. He had begged Pakistan, in a television interview during his visit on 17 November that year, Hamein Le Aaiye, Inhein (Modi) Hataiye (Bring in Congress, remove him). Can the Congress deny its mandate to speak against the elected Prime Minister of his own country on the enemy’s soil? This is the political bankruptcy of this nation, who find themselves very uncomfortable out of power. When the power goes out of the Nehru-Gandhi clan, Congress leaders feel orphaned and left out. The nation has not also forgotten how the opposition Congress in general and Rahul Gandhi in particular tried to put the Modi led government, especially the Indian Army in dock over surgical strikes in Pakistan occupied Kashmir on 16 September 2016. They sought proof; they sided with Pakistan which went in denial mode over strikes in their occupied territory. The irony of this nation is that due to political exigencies, the unscrupulous politicians don’t hesitate even to glorify the enemy nation. As if it was not enough, Rahul Gandhi did not hesitate to hobnob with the Dragon when India was in eyeball to eyeball situation with China. The Congress committed a huge faux pas in 2017 over the meeting of Congress Vice President with the Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui. The meeting had created a nation-wide uproar. Normally, such a meet at the time of standoff between India and China on the border area over the issue of Bhutan would have just raised eyebrows but the denial and admission drama made the event a sordid affair. First, the Congress spokesperson tweeted that the news about Gandhi and Luo had been planted by the government agencies through “Bhakti” (read Modi supporting) channels but when the story developed during the day he amended himself saying, “Nobody should try to sensationalise such normal courtesy calls to term them an event like the sources of the Ministry of External Affairs are attempting to do”. How could the top leader of the so-called national party establish links with a nation that was hostile towards the country? China has been provoking India in Ladakh and North East over the years; it is openly supporting Pakistan over the issue of terrorism; it has time and again foiled Indian efforts of getting terrorist Azhar Masood declared as a global terrorist by the UN; kept taunting India of 1962 war; it worked against Indian interests by strengthening the road line via Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, so on and so forth. In such a deplorable scenario, Rahul Gandhi’s bonhomie with the Chinese spoke volumes about the desperation of the Congress. (To be continued)
