JAMMU: Former Minister and Vice President BJP, J&K Sham Lal Sharma said that besides keeping the youth fit and healthy, judo also imbibes in them skill of self-defence.He was speaking as the chief guest in the closing ceremony of three-day long Judo championship which was organised by Judo Welfare Association held at Bhagwati Nagar, here.“Judo has become a life skill. It not only keeps the youth fit and active, but also opens new avenues for the budding sportsmen,” said Sharma.He applauded the Judo Welfare Association which is actively working in this field to aware the people about the benefits of practicing judo and asked it to continue their good work in the future.Judo Welfare Association efforts to promote and develop the judo on grass root level in Northern India have been rewarded with participation from a large number of players from different sports and coaching Centers and Club across the north India.Sharma also interacted with the students and participants at the championship and assured his support and help in the future. Youth of Jammu is second to none but marred by weak sports infrastructure, Sham Lal said and appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to look into the matter.“The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have proved their mettle time and again at all levels. It is unfortunate that despite having the best of talent, the youth suffers from infrastructural gaps,” he said.He appealed to the Manoj Sinha-led Administration to frame a sports policy for the youth of the union territory at the earliest.New Delhi was adjudged as the overall champion in the competition while Haryana was adjudged as the runner-up in the championship.
