JAMMU: Police on Saturday arrested four persons for production and circulation of counterfeit currency.
As per details, a complaint was lodged at Police Post Talab Tillo by a person (pan-shop owner) that two boys, came on a motorcycle to his shop and purchased a cigarette packet, against a fake note of Rs 500. On inquiring about the fake currency, the boys fled away. On this, a case vide FIR No. 63/2021 under section 489 B of IPC was registered at Police Station Nowabad.
On this special team of Police Post Talab Tillo was constituted. The team led by I/C Police Post Talab Tillo Insp Kali Charan connected various leads and finally with the help of CCTV footages and other technical aids arrested two accused namely Sachin Kumar, son of Ashok Kumar, resident of Sari Rakwalan Gho Manhasan and Rohit Sharma, son of Kuldeep Raj, resident of Talab Tillo Jammu.
During sustained questioning, the accused disclosed names of two other persons namely Vipin Pandita, son of Late Bansi Lal Pandita, resident of Om Nagar Udheywala near Elite Public School at present Hazuri Bagh Jammu and Rajesh Ganjoo, owner of zodiac studio at Anand Nagar. Police arrested both the accused and on their disclosure fake currency notes amounting to Rs 12,000, scales, coloured tapes, sheets, computer, scissors, printer and Water Mark stamps were recovered from their homes and shops at Anand Nagar, Bohri.
It is pertinent to mention that design was made in laptop of main accused namely Vipin Pandita and printouts of notes were taken at Zodiac studio. Also, Vipan Pandita was working on installing specialised printers to print counterfeit Indian currency on large scale. The arrest and recovery in case was made under the supervision of Dy SP Hqrs. Swati Sharma.
