Five drug peddlers arrested with contraband

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: Acting tough against drug dealings, Police on Monday nabbed five drug peddlers in separate raids and recovered psychotropic substance from their possession.
As per details, based on specific information, a team from Police Station Udhampur led by Insp Chanchal Singh SHO under supervision of Sahil Mahajan DySP Hqrs Udhampur laid a Naka at Jakhani Chowk NH, for checking. During Naka checking, police stopped a truck (JK01Q 2131), which was subjected to thorough search. During search vehicle, a special fabricated chamber was detected inside vehicle, from which 52 Kg poppy straw like substance was recovered. The narcotic smuggler namely Manzoor Ahmed, son of Abdul Rahim Gani, resident of Adigam, Budgam was arrested on the spot and a case vide FIR No. 65/2021 under Section 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Udhampur.
In another case, same police party intercepted a Santro car (PB 36D 3773) at Jakhani Naka Point for checking. During search of vehicle, 6 Kg poppy straw was recovered from possession of Arvind Singh, son of Balbir Singh, resident of Sultanpur, Jalandhar and Gurmukh Singh, son of Joginder Singh, resident of Nawa Shehar, Punjab. Both accused were arrested and a case under relevant sections of law was registered against them at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, a team of Police Station Janipur led by SHO Insp Nayat Ali while on patrolling duty in Ramzanpura, rounded up a suspect namely Mohd Ashraf Wani, son of Mohd Yousaf, resident of Munad Guffan, Kulgam. On search, 32 grams Heroin (Chitta) was recovered from his possession. He was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 17/2021 under Sections 8, 21 & 22 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Janipur.
In another action, officers during patrolling under jurisdiction of Police Station Nowhatta, intercepted a Honda Amaze (JK01V-5075) with one person onboard, who was identified as Muneer Ahmad Bhat, resident of Mominabad Batamaloo Srinagar. During checking, officers were able to recover psychotropic substance (5 Coughrex codeine phosphate bottles) from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remained under custody. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 05/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Nowhatta and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
