STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: A five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Internet of Things (loT) commenced at the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (DCSIT), University of Jammu, here in online mode. The Department of Computer Science & IT, University of Jammu, has been accorded the approval by ATAL, New Delhi for the conduct of five day FDP on Internet of Things under the Engineering stream.Prof. Manoj Kumar Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest at the inauguration function today. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Manoj Dhar appreciated the efforts of the department for organizing the FDP which shall provide golden opportunity to the participants to interact with the leading experts, researchers, and academician working in the domain of loT.Prof Dhar emphasised that the focus of young academicians and researchers should be on development, designing the applications and products for solving real-world problems.He said that current pandemic has necessitated the design of our own technological innovations that should be competitive.Prof. Goutam Saha, Department of Information Technology, School of Technology, North-Eastern Hills University, Shillong was the Guest of Honour and key speaker.He said that the understanding of different technologies and working primarily to optimize, improve the existing systems, and innovate is the key to move to the path of growth and self reliance.Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, Head, Department of Computer Science and IT, while welcoming the guests and participants highlighted the endeavors of the department in organizing various academic and research programmes in recent months including invited talks, webinars, workshops and seminar on current technologies with the objectives of industry-academia interface and keeping the students, scholars, and faculty members abreast with the latest developments in the field of computer science.Prof Abrol said that loT merges the physical and digital universe by connecting different objects for effective real time responses without the involvement of human beings. Its significance has grown up in handling challenges of present pandemic like monitoring patients, air quality, tracking tagged equipments like oxygen tanks etc, he added.Dr. Lalit Sen Sharma, Professor, DCSIT and Coordinater, FDP informed the gathering about the objectives and programmes of AICTE ATAL Academy.Prof Lalit informed that two hundred teachers and researchers from twenty one states from the AICTE approved institutions have registered for this FDP.He said that there will be fifteen sessions including compulsory one on stress management, to be taken by various eminent and leading experts and academicians from various leading institutes across the country. Prof Meena Sharma, Chief Coordinator Campuses and Rector Kathua Campus, JU, Prof Rahul Gupta, Rector Bhaderwah Campus, JU Prof. Parveen Kumar Lehana, Head, Department of Electronics, JU, Prof. Vinod Sharma, Dr. Shubhnandan Singh Jamwal, Jasbir Singh, Dr. Suresh Rao, Dr. Abid Sarwar, Dr. Ashok Sharma, Amit Sharma, the faculty members from main and offsite campuses, research scholars along with the participants attended the programme.Rhea, research scholar conducted the proceedings while Jasbir Singh, Assistant Professor delivered the vote of thanks.
