JAMMU: In a much publicised PIL regarding eviction of encroachers from Poonch forest land, a Division Bench of J&K High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sindhu Sharma directed Deputy Advocate General, appearing for respondents to seek fresh instructions and to file further status report clearly stating time period within which most of the encroachments would be removed by Forest Department.DB further observed that it is expected that Forest Department would also pinpoint officers, who were responsible for such encroachments so that necessary action may be initiated against them.When the PIL Came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed that the PIL is also in connection with the unauthorized occupation of the forest land but in relation to Village Hari Tehsil Surankote District Poonch.DB further observed that it is alleged that about 2,100 Kanals of forest land in aforesaid area has been encroached upon. P N Bhat, counsel for the petitioner disputes the factum of clearing of even 409 Kanals of land. DB further said that one of the orders dated July 17, 2019 revealed that there are about 127 encroachers on forest land and status report so far filed indicate that only 409 Kanals of forest land has been got cleared from encroachers.
