JAMMU: To oppose proposed privatisation of banks, a number of bank employees and officers under the banner of Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation, in association with All India Bank Officers Association (Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh) held a joint sit-in Dharna in front of Punjab National Bank, branch Shalamar on Friday, followed by a massive demonstration programme. The employees shall also observe two days strike on March 15 and 16, 2021 in support of their demands.Speaking on the occasion, Arun Kumar Gupta, General Secretary, Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation, informed that recent announcement by Govt to privatise Banks is retrograde and not in interest of public at large. Public sector banks are vehicles of economic growth and security from last 5 decades and have played a vital role in various reforms. “All Govt programmes reach to common masses through Public sector banks. Public Sector Banks performed extremely well during Jan Dhan Yojna Accounts and Demonetisation and are implementing all schemes for benefit of common public like Direct Benefit Transfer, Gas subsidies, Atal Pension Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojna, Pradhan Mantra Suraksha Beema Yojna, Scholarships, and many others. Further, with the decision, unemployment will increase. There will be no job-security but there will be exploitation of workers, if banks are privatised,” he added.Ashwani Pradhan, Convenor (Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh), in his address highlighted threat to Public Sector Banking, in view of Govt of India’s pro-corporate policies. He said that Public Sector Banks are increasing their operation profits every year, but these profits are being shifted for provision of NPA loans and in name of loss making, banks are being privatised. He demanded recovery of NPA from defaulters besides declaring willful default as criminal offence. He called upon all bank employees to stand united in the fight against the outmoded and anti-people policies of Government and make strike call of March 15-16, a huge success. In his concluding remarks, Arun Kumar Gupta asked all leaders present to meticulously implement AIBEA call, which besides UFBU is also being supported by all major Trade Union centers of the country. The gathering was also addressed by Tara Singh, Harbans Lal, Yogesh Kumar, Harminder Singh and Jitender Kumar.
