JAMMU: While the Union Ministry of Home Affairs reviewed the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir in the backdrop of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones from Pakistan dropping arms, the investigations into the security breach in the ‘no-fly zone’ of Raj Bhavan Jammu are allegedly being pushed to backburner to shield the culprits involved in flying drones over the highly secured complex.
According to sources, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is trying to hush-up the case by trivializing the incident as ‘unintentional’ flying of the videographers’ drone trespassing over the Raj Bhavan while capturing a wedding in the adjacent banquet. Two persons from Dehradun were detained after the incident and the drone was seized. Police had claimed that the duo was being questioned but no follow up was given, raising the apprehension of hushing up the case. To cover the lapse on the part of the law enforcing agencies and to escape uncomfortable questions, the police is believed to be offering alibis to downplay the incident at the compromising
the security of the Raj Bhavan even as chilling reports of Pak drones dropping ammunition and narcotics in various parts of the Jammu region. How can police guarantee any such drone flying from the enemy base not venturing to Civil Secretariat, Raj Bhavan or other important installations in high security zones, knowledgable sources observed, adding that the incident is serious one and needs to be seen as a major fiasco, keeping in view the security of high profile protectee.
They added that sale, use and even possession of a drone at a public place is banned, then how drones are being used for photography at a wedding that too near Raj Bhawan in Jammu.
Drones are regularly being spotted in Punjab and many of them have been shot down. In Samba district, police have lately seized a consignment of arms and explosives and cash which had been dropped through a drone.
