Dr Shakti appointed first Director of AIIMS Jammu



JAMMU: Son of the soil, Dr Shakti Gupta, former Medical Superintendent, Dr.R.P.Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi has been appointed as first Director of AIIMS Jammu.
The formal order has been issued by the Department of Personnel and Trainings, Government of India, said Union Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Dr Jitendra Singh.
Before his superannuation on January 31, 2021, Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta remained Medical Superintendent, Dr. R.P. Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences and HoD, Department of Hospital Administration, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
The AIIMS Jammu has been set up at Vijaypur in Samba district of Jammu province. The construction work of the Institute is under process while the class work for MBBS course shall start from this current session.
Dr Shakti did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Jammu and Masters in Hospital Administration from AIIMS, New Delhi.
Dr Shakti has many awards and honours to his credit. He got Capital Foundation National Award-2018, Times Healthcare Achievers Award in 2018, the state award for meritorious public service on Republic Day by Jammu & Kashmir Government in 2014, International Partner of the Year Award by Institute of Rescue Engineering and Civil Protection, Cologne, University of Applied Science Germany. First Indian to be awarded with this prestigious award of International significance in 2012, he is also recipient of Chikitsa Ratan-2010, Shram Sree-2010 and Pratibhashi Samman-2002.
Dr. Shakti Gupta has more than 28 years of teaching and research experience to his credit in the specialty of Hospital Administration. He joined the specialty on 20 September 1993 and worked as Assistant Professor till 30 June 1998, Associate Professor from 01 July 1998 to 19 February 2000, Additional Professor from 20-February 2000 to 20 September 2005, Professor from 20 September 2005 to January 31, 2021, Professor & Head Department of Hospital Administration, AIIMS from 28- February 2007 to 20 March 2014.
In addition to the responsibility of teaching and research, Dr Gupta served as Medical Superintendent, Dr. R. P. Centre, AIIMS from 2005 to 2021. He has also served as MS, Cardiothoracic & Neurosciences Centre, AIIMS, MS JPNATC, AIIMS & MS Outreach, OPD-Jhajjar, AIIMS. He was the spokesperson, AIIMS and Faculty in-charge Media Centre, AIIMS for eight years.
Dr. Shakti Gupta had the opportunity of attending various training courses abroad. He did WHO fellowship in USA for three months on Accident and Emergency Services including Healthcare Financing & Reform, Western Consortium of Public Health, International Health Programmes, Santa Cruz, USA, from 10th -28th of March 1997 and Disaster Management from 30th March to 6th June1997. Hospital Management Programme for Chief Executives of Asia Pacific” from National University of Singapore from 6-10 September 1999.
Dr Gupta also attended East-West Telemedicine organized by East-West Telehealth Inc., Department of Business Economic Development & Tourism, State of Huwaii, USA, from 15 to 18 September 1998 and presented a paper on “Scope of Telemedicine in India”.
Dr Shakti has published 110 research papers in reputed National and International Journals, guided more than 136 research studies.
Dr Shakti has mentored more than 50 Postgraduate & PhD students besides introducing Integrated Learning Modules in Hospital Administration. He has been leader of delegation, Ministry of External Affairs, to conduct workshop for developing the course curriculum of MBBS students for Bhutan Institute of Medical Sciences, Thimpu, Bhutan.
He has authored various books on Modern Trends in Planning and Designing of Hospitals, Hospital Stores Management, Medical Services and Disaster Management, Emergency Medical Services -Global Prospective, Hospital Infection Control Guidelines, Disease outbreak Management, MCQs in Hospital and Healthcare Management, Hospital and Healthcare Administration, Appraisal and Referral Treatise, Disinfection and Sterilization Practices in Indian Operation Theatres.
Dr Shakti has also worked as expert member in more than 100 National and International committees.
