JAMMU: Dr. Harbans Singh, a renowned agricultural scientist and last Vice Chancellor of combined Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences, J&K breathed his last at Narayana Hospital Katra on Monday.Dr. Harbans was an alumni of IIT Kharagpur where he did his Ph.D in Agronomy in the year 1970.He started his career from the Department of Agriculture and subsequently with the establishment of university in the state, he was appointed as Chief Scientist and later on as Director Extension and then the Vice Chancellor of combined university (SKAUST).A highly dedicated teacher and an eminent personality, Dr. Harbans Singh served the state throughout his life in various capacities with utmost sincerity, integrity and commitment.His contributions in the field of agricultural sciences were remarkable as he was always known for his honesty and hard work.His demise has been widely mourned by all the sections of the society. He is survived by his wife, two sons and grand children.
