JAMMU: Shiv Sena Bala Saheb Thackeray, Jammu and Kashmir unit has welcomed the instructions of LG Manoj Sinha to close all the schools in this Union Territory amid increasing cases of Corona virus infection.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s office on Monday, the Sena’s J&K Unit Chief Manish Sahni said, “Administration’s direction to close the schools is a welcome move but at the same time it needs to be ensured by the Education Department and the administration that teachers are not put to risk unnecessarily.
“I am highlighting the issue of the teachers because in some institutions especially the private ones the teachers are being unnecessarily called to attend the schools and colleges without any teaching work.” This is mere harassment of the teachers who are considered to be nation builders, he added.
The Shiv Sena J&K President said, the situation across the nation and globally is highly worrisome and even the Union Territory has been witnessing highest spike in fresh Corona positive cases of this year with each passing day. In such circumstances it is advisable that people should not go out of their homes unnecessarily.
Sahni said that teachers should be provided the best facilities for their outstanding performance during the pandemic by working from home. He said that the importance of teachers for the society is no less than none else as they have the prime role in moulding the future of the nation. In fact they should be paid additional allowances for incurring expenditure on laptops and Internet/Wifi facilities during these testing times to continue online teaching, he asserted.
Therefore the teachers should be called to attend the educational institutions only when the teaching whether online or offline resumes, Sahni appealed to the administration to act tough against those violating the COVID-19 SOPs issued by the government to control spread of the dreadful virus. On this occasion Gen Secretary Vikas Bakshi, Sr Vice president Harsh Kumar Gupta were present.
