District Kathua Volleyball Premier League concludes

KATHUA: Five-day District Kathua Volleyball Premier League Tournament organised by J&K Sports Council with collaboration of Kathua District Volleyball Association concluded at Gurah Mundian, here on Friday.
In this tournament, top six volleyball teams of Kathua district participated and each team displayed their best volleyball skills and won the applause of the spectators. The tournament was organised under the overall supervision of Iqbal Singh, Manager Sports Stadium Kathua and Mohinder Sharma, General Secretary Volleyball Association Kathua. M.L Toofan President Kathua Volleyball Association thanked Iqbal Singh for making Gurah Mundian as venue of the tournament. Village Gurah Mundian has special significance in volleyball game since last 60 years producing scores of players representing J&K in national level, he said adding that the people of Gurah Mundian and adjoining villages taking keen interest in this game. Iqbal Singh, the Nodal Officer of the tournament, thanked the office bearers of the District Volleyball Association and people of the village for their cooperation in conducting the tournament successfully. M L Toofan also thanked Des Raj Sharma, retired Chief Manager J&K Bank, a philanthropist volleyball lover for distributing fruits among all the players participating in the tournament, officials and spectators. A large number of people of the area were present to witness the matches. DDC member from Hiranagar, Abhinandan Sharma gave Rs 500 to each player of Lower Mela team for their superb performance.
Today’s results: Shaktipunj Club Hiranagar defeated Upper Mela Club by 3-2 (23-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 15-10); Rising Star Club defeated Lower Mela by 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-19); Gurah Mundian got walk over as Volleyball Club Koota team did not turned up. Others present were Ram Lal Joint Secretary of Kathua Association, Vikas Magotra Swimming Coach JKSC, Rakesh Goswamy, Roop Lal, S.P Sharma, Roshan Lal, Kishori Lal and Kamal Sharma.
