Udhampur: From the day the corona-19 is engulfing the world, to prevent this epidemic and to keep people safe and relieved, government employees like health workers, sanitary workers, bank personnel, army personnel and other uniformed or other employees / people performing their duties 24X7. The government has given them the status of ‘Corona warriors’ and ‘Frontline workers’. But a very important organ called the fourth pillar of democracy, ‘Media’, is also working 24X7 towards this battle. The special passes are also issued to them by administration.
They communicate the guidelines of the government to the general public during the lock-down and the difficulties faced by the public are reflected back to administration.
But the government has not yet declared the media fraternity as ‘Corona warriors’ / ‘Frontline workers’. Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, former Superintendent of Police and current President ‘Senior Citizen Club Udhampur’ said in a press conference. He urged the government to declare the journalist fraternity also as ‘Corona Warrior’ / ‘Frontline Workers’, like many states declaring so and have decided to prioritize them in the vaccination program.
Jamwal retaliated that most of the journalists aged 18 – 45 years are working from Ground Zero, especially in Udhampur district.
As the vaccination for this age group has not started in Udhampur yet, the administration is requested to recognize this journalist fraternity as a special category for vaccination immediately, irrespective of the age, so that they themselves as well as their family could feel safe and be able to fulfill their responsibilities.
