JAMMU: Natrang felicitated its versatile artist Adv. Sajra Qadir who was recently appointed as the Vice-Chairperson of District Development Council, Reasi.The felicitations were done by the senior members of Natrang Suresh Kumar, Anil Tickoo, Neeraj Kant, Vikrant Sharma, Sartaj Singh and Gauri Thakur.Director Natrang Balwant Thakur is presently posted in Johannesburg as Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa while speaking on the occasion live from Johannesburg said that Natrang alumni have always brought pride and honour for us. We have produced not only good actors and artists but also meritorious professionals and civil servants. This is the first occasion when a product of Natrang has ventured in politics and has remarkably succeeded in achieving that. Entry of an artist in politics is a very healthy sign for the civil society and I am not only sure but confident that she will make a difference. He hoped that she will set new standards of politics and public governance in this country.Interestingly she won the Vice-Chairmanship through lucky draw as both the candidates who were fighting for Vice-Chairmanship received 7 votes each. It was indeed a dramatic moment and one can easily see the big upsurge. Adv. Sajra Qadir won the election as an Independent Candidate with 3230 votes from Gulabgarh.Born in a remote village Kundra of district Reasi in year 1989, Sajra Qadir started her theatre career as a child artist from children’s theatre workshop organised by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. She is a law graduate from University of Jammu and acted in more than seventy plays include ‘Ghumayee’, ‘Bawa-Jitto’, ‘Aap Hamare Hain Kaun’, ‘Mere Hisse Ki Dhoop Kahan Hai’, ‘Choona Hai Aasman’, ‘Mind Games’, ‘Kauva Chala Hans Ki Chaal’, ‘Baba Ji Ki Jai Ho’, ‘Bichoo’ besides many others which was been performed under the banner of Natrang.Having over 15 years experience in the field of theatre, Sajra’s highly acclaimed performance has been as the lead actress in Balwant Thakur’s Dogri play ‘Suno Eh Kahani’ which has beautifully brought front the social cause of child marriage and has received accolades from theatre experts. Sajra is a versatile actress and has the capacity to connect to the audiences to the deepest level. Her performances as Jojan in the longest living contemporary theatre play of India ‘Bawa Jitto has made her more popular when she performed in the Aghar Jitto Mela.Daughter of a well-known poet of urdu and dogri Abdul Qadir Kundria, Sajra has received National Scholarship in the year 2011 for two years from Ministry of Culture, Government of India for folk and traditional and indigenous arts. Sharing her views, she shares “I believe that theatre makes a person disciplined, punctual, regular and most of all a socially aware and responsible human being. And a person having all these qualities can set herself in any field with a huge scope” and today if I have achieved this position is because of my active participation in theatre in association with Natrang which shaped me into a better person.
