DDC polls will strengthen democracy at grass root level: Nitish

JAMMU: With the initiation of District Development Council (DDC) elections in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, democracy would be brought at the doorstep of the people.
This was stated by Nitish Mahajan, State BJP Executive Member while addressing a party workers meeting here at Gandhi Nagar Constituency segment.
Mahajan said that with the successful conduct of DDC elections, every facility would be provided to the people on the ground level and people residing in the far flung and marginalized areas would get their due representation and would have their own representatives. These chosen representatives would address the grievances and issues of masses very keenly besides would strengthen the democracy at grass roots level in the UT, he said.
“Holding of DDC elections in the UT was a historical step of Modi led government which no other party in the country could do,” Nitish said and added that this will development democracy in the UT of J&K and would have more public participation.
Nitish said that with DDC elections, people’s participation would be all time high and people who were ignored by the successive governments would participate in the democratic setup. All the credit of the same goes to BJP which is committed for the peace, development and prosperity of J&K, he said.
The BJP leader said that the youth of the UT have to play a vital role in democratic process in J&K in DDC elections. For the last seven decades, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were deprived of their rights and failed by the successive governments, he said.
Nitish said that this was only because of the able leadership of PM Modi that J&K has gained such a developmental charm.
“DDC elections are being held in the UT first time and these are the first major elections being held after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A). BJP is committed to bring on democracy to its utmost cheer in the UT of J&K,” he asserted.
