JAMMU: BJP’s unrelenting propaganda claiming that the mainstream leaders and parties had lost the favour of the people has been exposed by people of J&K in recently concluded DDC polls. They failed to convince people of J&K why they took away statehood of Jammu and Kashmir. This was observed by former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla while interacting with prominent persons of Ward-56 Ekta Vihar, Gangyal.Prominent among those present on the occasion include Block President Satish Sharma, Sumanpreet Singh, Baldev Singh Wazir, Capt Anoop Singh, Arjun Kumar, Ludarmani Sharma, Omparkash Sharma, Gopal Dass, Jitnider Pal Singh, RK Wasim, Takdeer Singh Badal, Taresem Lal, Angrej Singh and Ramanpreet Singh.Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said DDC election results had shown that the people of J&K rejected BJP’s policies and programmes. In total, across the Union Territory, BJP got 75 seats out of 280. It got 72 out of 140 seats in 10 districts of Jammu division – which it has considered its stronghold – and was unable to win the post of chairperson in five districts, Bhalla said.“The DDC polls were a prelude to delimitation. Had the BJP been able to sweep the polls as they had expected, you would have expected assembly elections at the earliest,” said Bhalla.Stating that people have rejected the ‘anti-J&K policies’ adopted by the BJP-ruled central government, Bhalla thanked the residents of the union territory for voting for and supporting the Congress in the just concluded DDC elections.‘Congress won’t be cowed down by intimidation and pressure politics aiming to restrict the party’s movement especially during the just concluded DDC elections, and will continue to fight for people’s rights,’ he said.
