JAMMU: Sunil Kumar gave impressive performance and won the sub-junior boys MTB title on the opening day of the 2nd J&K UT Cycling Championship, organised by J&K Cycling Association under the aegis of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA) and sponsored by J&K Sports Council (JKSC) at MA Stadium, here on Tuesday.
Belongs to a poor family, Sunil has got passion for mountain biking and has already represented J&K at the National level. A student of 11th standard at Government Higher Secondary (Boys) School, Udhampur, Sunil has attracted the attention of the Association.
“We have decided to help this (Sunil) young boy in pursing his passion for cycling. He has got the talent and the Association has decided to support him and make efforts to get him an advance bike to help him grow,” President of J&K Cycling Association, Ravinder Singh said.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by Divisional Sports Officer of JKSC, Ashok Singh, who was Chief Guest in the inaugural function. President of JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma presided. Veteran sports administrator, Dr Ashutosh encouraged the participants and advised them to practice hard to achieve the desired results.
Earlier, General Secretary of the Association, S S Gill and treasurer, Ravi Salgotra welcomed the distinguished guests and participants.

Elite Men: Mohammad Saleem, Badgam, Ist; Rohit Kumar, Jammu, 2nd and Danish Ahmad, Budgam, 3rd.
