Criminal suit filed against Vikram Randhawa in Delhi court

NEW DELHI: A Criminal Complaint Suit against one Vikram Randhawa from Jammu was filed on Friday in the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House District Court, Delhi for committing an Offence of Defamation against Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.
The Criminal Complaint has been filed under Sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860 against Vikram Randhawa. The Delhi-based Panel of Advocates comprising Jeevesh Nagrath, Narinder Mann, Chandan Dutta and Manoj Pant said that since the complaint has been formally filed in the Court of Law, it would not be appropriate for them to comment any further on this matter. The law will take its own course, they said.
Pertinent to mention that Vikram Randhawa had, in a press conference on the 3rd of this month, made some unsubstantiated allegations against several government and political office bearers without presenting any proof or evidence for the same.
He had also used abusive language against all the individuals mentioned by him and not only abused them but also cursed them and their children citing the justification that he was under stress for a penalty of Rs. 97 lakhs that the Department of Mining, Government of Jammu & Kashmir had asked him to deposit for alleged lapses in his conduct of mining business and stone crusher.
Within a few hours of the Press Conference by Randhawa, the Parliamentary Incharge of Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency, Sanjeev Sharma had gone to the media to demand an apology from Randhawa or evidence, failing which there was no other option but to file a Defamation Suit of Rs One crore.
With no response having come forth within the stipulated timeline, a legal notice was served to Randhawa by the Delhi based lawyers hired by Dr Jitendra Singh and after the expiry of the time limit allowed in the legal notice, today the team of Legal Counsellors and Advocates in due course filed an official Criminal Complaint in the Patiala House District Court, Delhi.
