JAMMU: Congress on Wednesday said that BJP has got clear majority only in five out of twenty districts whereas in rest fifteen districts its non BJP parties like Congress and others or independents, who can form the DDCs.
JKPCC Chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma said that as far as Congress is concerned, it is committed to check mate BJP wherever possible but other non BJP parties and independents, opposed to BJP policies, have to work simultaneously in that direction, to prevent any horse trading or use of party and government machinery by the ruling party.
The Congress contested the election on it’s own symbol and philosophy, although in seat sharing, at majority seats with NC led alliance, he said adding that in several places we were against each other too but there existed an arrangement between the parties against BJP.
Replying to another question, he said, “We shall continue to work in the direction to stop BJP, although party leadership has yet to take final decision in the regards, as results are just out.”
He said BJP lost many DDCs in several assembly segments, which were with BJP since 2014, while some of its big stalwarts including faces for the DDC chairmanship too lost, showing disenchantment with the party.
Since these elections were held for the first time, large number of independent aspirants joined the fray which led to the division of votes of dissent to the advantage of ruling party.
He said the vote share of the BJP too decreased to great extent .
The BJP had to deploy a heavy contingent of its central leaders for the local elections who did not mention a word about the developmental achievements but engaged in emotional exploitations of voters on the issue of Gupkar Alliance without even once explaining their continued alliance with them in Kargil Hill Council, he said.
