JAMMU: Joining the fight against the deadly second wave of COVID, the Central Government Pensioners’ Welfare Association (CGPWA), J&K, Jammu has raised fund of Rs. 3,07,300 out of their pension for the victims of the pandemic coronavirus. This fund has been contributed by 49 pensioners. These pensioners have, once again, risen to the occasion to extend helping hand to the people in distress. Last year, the Association had contributed Rs. 3.11 lakh out of their pension J&K LG’s Relief Fund for fighting COVID-19 pandemic. With the current contributions, the Central Govt Pensioners of Jammu have so far donated Rs. 6.18 lakh for fighting COVID pandemic during one year. In almost every human tragedy everywhere in the country, the pensioner members of the CGPWA had been in the fore front in making donations and contributing to PM National Relief Fund or concerned CN Relief Fund. Contributing for the victims of natural calamities has been the hallmark of public service of these senior citizens who always consider it as their foremost obligation towards the society as and when it is in distress.According to the President of the CGPWA, S.S. Wazir IPS (Retd), this time, the fund raised has been divided into two parts. One part of the contribution amounting to Rs 1,13,300 has been sent to the PM Cares Fund for combating the second wave of COVID at national level while the remaining Fund has been used in purchase of Oxygen Concentrators for local COVID patients taking treatment at home. The Association has collaborated with Rotary Club Jammu Tawi, international body known for humanitarian service, and Vivekananda Charitable Hospital Amphalla, Jammu by pooling their resources to serve the local brethren who are suffering for want of oxygen when fell victim to deadly coronavirus especially under treatment at home. They are creating an Oxygen Concentrator bank for use of the needy COVID patients at home round the clock.
