STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Natrang’s National Theatre Talk Show, ‘Young Voices of Theatre’ featured an enterprising alumni of National School of Drama, Bhasha Sumbli on Tuesday who shared her inspirational thoughts with the global audience at the Facebook page of Natrang Jammu.Born in Srinagar, Bhasha started theatre under the guidance of stalwarts of Kashmiri folk theatre like Moti Lal Khemu. She wrote her first play at the age of 15 and later many of her plays got published in national journals.Her research articles on Ancient and Popular Theatre forms have been published in ‘Rang Prasang’ of National School of Drama.She graduated from National School of Drama, New Delhi and is a recipient of the prestigious Inlaks Theatre Award 2014.Bhasha has specialized in the ancient Indian Classical Acting form ‘Koodiyattam’ under Gopal Venu.She moved to Mumbai to join Anupam Kher’s acting school ‘Actor Prepares’ as Faculty of Acting and later she Joined Zee TV’s ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz’ season 2 & 3 as Acting Mentor followed by Sony TV’s Acting Reality show ‘Sabse Bada Kalakaar’ as Acting Guru.She also mentored the TV Presenters at IPL extravaganza talk shows ‘Super Funday’ for Star Television Network.She has acted alongside Shweta Tiwari in the TV serial ‘Mere Dad ki Dulhan’ and has also acted in Meghna Gulzar’s film ‘Chhapaak’. Soon she will be seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s much awaited ‘The Kashmir Files’.In an edifying conversation with Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee actor and Natrang’s senior artist Anil Tickoo, Basha narrated her eventful journey of theatre.Being daughter of prominent literary personalities Agni Shekhar and Kshama Kaul, Bhasha inherited literary and artistic sensibilities from a very young age and she cheerfully asserts that the vivid relation between literature and theatre has made her theatre journey meaningful and easy.Speaking about her initial journey, she proudly acclaims that Jammu always had a vibrant culture of theatre which has given boost to theatre aspirants like her.As presently she is doing praiseworthy work in Mumbai, It is a very satisfying experience for her that she is able to do regular theatre along with other assignments of TV and films.After gaining experience and exposure in theatre, benevolent Bhasha considers it her moral responsibility to share her knowledge with theatre enthusiasts of Jammu. Moreover, she is just physically away from J&K which always remains vibrant in her heart.Speaking about ‘Koodiyattam’ and other Indian Classical art forms, she very convincingly states that ‘Classical’ is ancient but never outdated, it is always authentic and contemporary.Being herself trained in different methodologies, Bhasha believes that theatre training is a customized thing which works differently for different people.She suggests to learn everything but to stay close to our folk and originality as the expression of native language is always more original and truth is never out of fashion.Natrang’s team which is managing this national event includes Neeraj Kant, Anil Tickoo, Sumeet Sharma, Sanjeev Gupta, Vikrant Sharma, Mohd Yaseen, Brijesh Avtar Sharma, Vrinda Sharma, Meenakshi Bhagat, Gauri Thakur and Chander Shekhar.Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Yuva Bismillah Khan Awardee Manish Joshi Bismil would be featured in this talk show on 9th of June, 2021.
