JAMMU: In a monthly meeting held by District Congress Committee Jammu (Urban) at the Congress office on Saturday wherein District Congress leaders discussed important issues about the people in Jammu and the party’s action plan regarding them, it was announced that the party would start the second phase of agitational programme against BJP to demand Statehood for J&K under the guidance of PCC and DCC leaders.
The meeting was chaired by former Minister Yogesh Sawhney, General Secretary JKPCC & Incharge District President Jammu (U).
The meeting also observed two minutes of silence to pay condolences to the recently deceased Congress leaders Somdutt Sharma (Secretary DCC), Rajinder Kumar, Ravi Kumar and Imran Khan.
The district leaders paid their tributes to the late leaders and prayed for strength for the bereaved family and loved ones .
Addressing the meeting, Sawhney said that the Congress Party’s campaigns against the fuel price hike, property tax, and seeking statehood for J&K have gained momentum with the involvement and support of a large number of people who demand the same things.
Now the second phase will focus on demanding statehood for J&K and will continue unless the Centre concedes to our demands he said. Through protest, demonstrations and campaigns, he said, we will urge the Centre to give back Jammu and Kashmir its statehood.
Expressing appreciation for the party leaders for the successful agitational programme against the various policies of the Centre and the massive response that it garnered, Sawhney encouraged the party leaders to take it a step further by advancing the campaign against the oppressive tax regime of the government, the indignant rise in prices, and the overall economic hardships that the people have to go through under this regime.
Prominent Senior Congress leaders present at the meeting include Krishan Lal Gupta, Madan Malager, Dr. Ramakant Khajuria, Varinder Manhas, Uttam Chib, Bhannu Sharma, Atul Sharma, Chander Sheikhar Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Michel Wazir, Pawan Sharma, Manmohan Sharma, Jugal Sharma, Paras Ram Baloria, Yashpal Sharma, Rakesh Sharma, Gurmeet Singh, Markes Gill, Madhu Banraj, Surinder Dogra and others.
