‘Basant Panchami to be celebrated today’



JAMMU: This year, Basant Panchami will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. It was stated by the President, Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avem Vedic Sansthan (SKJAVS) Trust, Mahant Rohit Shastri in a press statement issued on Monday.
Giving further details, Rohit Shastri said that festival of Basant Panchami is celebrated every year in Magha Shukla Paksha Panchami Tithi of Hindu calendar. “Basant Panchami is believed to be the day when Goddess Saraswati was born. So the day is also known as Saraswati Jayanti, considered as best time to state new beginnings, works etc,” he added.
He further said that Basant Panchami festival is also referred to as Saraswati Pooja in many parts of the country and involves worshipping Goddess Saraswati. People get dressed in yellow clothing besides offering yellow flowers, others things to Goddess of Wisdom. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, people should celebrate the festival by staying at our homes, he added.
