STATE TIMES NEWSVijaypur: Provincial President Jammu, Apni Party, Manjit Singh on Monday condemned selective approach of the authorities on the anti-encroachment drive in Samba where Dalit families were targeted and influential people were shielded. In a statement to the press, Apni Party organized a public meeting at village Swankha in Vijaypur, Samba District in which people highlighted their grave concern over the selective approach of authorities on the name of encroachment drives by targeting the Schedule Caste and downtrodden section of the society.Speaking on the occasion, Former Minister and Provincial President, Jammu, Manjit Singh condemned the attitude of the officials for making the poor people homeless by snatching shelter from them.“Dalit families have been living since last 100 years at Swankha village of Samba. But the administration is after them to make them homeless and on the other hand, the influential people are shielded despite encroachment on water bodies,” said Manjit Singh after listening to the grievances of the poor people.“The departments who launch such drives against the poor have no courage to remove encroachment on the land of influential people having links in power corridors,” said Manjit Singh. He questioned the selective approach of some officials who are responsible for the suffering of common man and they are behaving like the autocratic ruler which is highly condemnable. He demanded strict action against the officials responsible for making discrimination. “This all is happening because the elected Govt is not in place and the officials are working for the powerful people and crushing the poor,” said Manjit Singh and sought holding of early assembly elections in J&K to mitigate the suffering of the people. He said that time has come when the Govt should re-think and avoid acting on the decisions of the babus who have nothing to do with the common masses.Manjit Singh warns continuation of such drives in future saying that they will not tolerate discriminatory approach of a Govt which is meant for the welfare of the people especially poor.
