Athletics to get latest equipments in J&K: Alok Kumar

JAMMU: Athletics, the mother of all games, attracted the attention of the Government in view of ever growing interest among the youth and larger participation in the 19th J&K Athletics Championship at University of Jammu (JU) grounds, here on Sunday.
The organisers, J&K Amateur Athletics Association (JKAAA) has been assured of special attention to the game in the shape of latest equipments and improved infrastructure to strengthen the game in entire Union Territory of J&K by the
Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Alok Kumar.
Senior officer of the UT, Alok Kumar was speaking at the valedictory function of the 19th J&K Athletics Championship which was sponsored by J&K Sports Council (JKSC).
“I assure the JKAAA and those budding athletes that Government working on improved infrastructure and latest equipments needed in training a National standard athlete. It is quite appreciable that over 500 young athletes from all over J&K, including J&K Police, turned up for participation. I also appreciate JKSC, University of Jammu (JU), J&K Police (JKP) and Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) for collaborating with the JKAAA in successful conduct of the competition,” said the Chief Guest, Alok Kumar.
Guest of Honour, President of JKOA, Prof Ashutosh Sharma informed about the activities and working of various sports association in J&K.
He asked the Government for improved sports infrastructure at the district level.
Among other guests of honour were Director General (DYSS), Dr Saleem Ur Rehman; Secretary JKSC, Nuzhat Gul and general secretary, JKOA, Dushyant Sharma.
Earlier, president of the JKAAA, Sunil Mahajan presented a brief note of the three-day championship held under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Vote of thanks presented by General Secretary of JKAAA, Sharat Chander Singh.
The Chief Guest felicitated those technical and other officials involved in the conduct of the competition.
Representatives of various sports associations were also honoured. They were Rajan Sharma (Boxing), Vikas Gupta (Judo), Ravinder Singh (Cycling), Dr Nitesh (Sports Medicine Specialist), Vijay Saraf (Wushu), Om Parkash (Cycling), Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ravi Salgotra (Cycling), Vinod Bhatia (Athletics), Sarwant Singh Gill (Athletics), Ajay Sharma (treasurer JKAAA), Ravinder Singh (Athletics).
The Results: MEN: Open: 100 mts: Rohit (Jammu), Ist; Dannish Yousuf (JKP), 2nd and Faisal Rashid (Ganderbal), 3rd. Under-20: Vikas Sharma (Jammu), Ist; Shubham Kumar (Jammu), 2nd and Shawnm Danieal (Jammu), 3rd. HIGH JUMP: Under-14: Aditya Chib (Jammu), Ist and Lakshdeep (Jammu), 2nd.
