STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: The brutal killing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Councillor, Rakesh Pandit was widely condoled across Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory on Thursday. Several political leaders, including BJP J&K Chief Ravinder Raina, JKPCC Chief G A Mir, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana besides a number of other social organisations and members of Kashmiri Pandits organisations have condemned the attack on BJP leader.National Conference Provincial President, Devender Singh Rana condemned the brutal assassination of BJP Councillor Rakesh Pandit in Tral area of Pulwama, describing the terror act as barbaric and inhuman. “Sad to know about dastardly killing of BJP Councillor Rakesh Pandit in Tral,” Rana said in a statement issued here this morning, adding that terrorism has no place in a civilized society.Arya Pratinidhi Sabha J&K under the leadership of Arun Chowdhary along with other executive committee members have also condemned the horrendous killing of Rakesh Pandit. “He was one of the great warriors of Bharat Mata, as he stayed in Kashmir at a time when terrorism has infected the area but that didn’t stop him from serving public diligently,” said Arun, urging Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha to apprehend culprits at the earliest.BJP Urban Local Body Cell Convener and JMC Councillor, Sanjay Kumar Baru has also condemned the brutal attack on BJP leader, Rakesh Pandit by Pakistan sponsor terrorists at Tral, Kashmir. “Terrorists have attacked the democracy and peace efforts in Kashmir. The murderers of innocent will never go unpunished and culprits will soon be punished,” he added.Condemning killing of a Municipal Councilor in Tral, People’s Democratic Party asserted that instead of playing religious politics, ruling Bharatiya Janata Party must accept its failures on ground level. Condemning brutal killing of Rakesh Pandit, PDP Jammu unit sought adequate security for all political class.In a joint statement issued here, Abdul Hamid Chowdhary, Vice President PDP said that government should take cognizance of the matter and revamp the entire security grid to ensure that UT doesn’t lose anymore political personality due to lack of security.“BJP cannot simply wash its hands off by playing victim card. No terrorist activity can succeed without support of over ground workers and harbourers, who help terrorists to escape safely after committing a sinister attack,” he asserted and urged LG to sanction adequate compensation to next of kin of Late Rakesh Pandit.Several senior leaders of Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) have strongly condemned killing of MC President and BJP leader Rakesh Pandit by terrorists in Tral and expressed sympathy with bereaved family members, relatives and friends. PCC leaders expressed deep sympathies with bereaved family and prayed for peace to departed soul. The signatories to the statement included former Ministers and Vice President PCC Mula Ram, Raman Bhalla, Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, Ashok Sharma, Raman Mattoo, Suman Bhagat, Majid Wani, Th Balbir Singh, Shabir Ahmad Khan, Indu Pawar, G L Chalotra, Ashok Dogra, Krishan Chander Bhagat (all Ex-ministers/ Ex-legislators) besides senior functionaries of PCC, DCC and frontal heads.President Panun Kashmir, Virender Raina, also condemned killing of a BJP Corporator Rakesh Pandit in Tral Kashmir. “Assassinated leader was a brave man, who despite knowing the conditions, chose to serve in Kashmir as a Corporator. It seems armed terrorists are roaming free in Kashmir and can kill minority Kashmiri Pandits with impunity,” he added.Nitish Mahajan, State Executive member BJP, J&K, paid floral tributes to BJP councillor Rakesh Pandit, who was shot dead by terrorists. In the condolence meeting held here, Nitish expressed extreme grief and sorrow as well as strong anguish over gruesome killing of Pandit. He said that death of the BJP leader is a huge loss for the party and added that his ‘sacrifice will not go in vain’.A condolence meeting was convened by Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor JMC at Town Hall Jammu which was also attended by Adv Purnima Sharma Deputy Mayor, Narinder Singh Jamwal Chairman Health & Sanitation Committee Yash Paul Sharma Chairman Swachh Bharat Committee, Kuldeep Singh Jamwal Chairman Social Justice Committee, Parmod Kapahi Chief Whip BJP of General House Meeting. All participants condemned brutal killing of Rakesh Pandit by the terrorists and observed two minutes of silence.Dogra Front & Shiv Sena J&K led by its President Ashok Gupta paid tributes to Rakesh Pandit by lighting candles and showering petals on picture of deceased leader. Others present on the occasion included Abhishek, Bantu, Naresh, Prem, Pradhan, Ajay, Dwassi and Atulya.Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Maha Sabha, led by its Chairman /President, Ramesh Chander Mahajan has also condemned the brutal killing of Rakesh Pandit and demanded justice for bereaved family.Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri said that visibly frustrated terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir are trying to create terror by resorting to selective killings of unarmed people, especially BJP workers and its leaders. Raman Suri, while paying tribute to BJP Councillor Rakesh Pandit, said that selective killing is primarily aimed at scaring BJP workers.Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) has also condemned killing of another Kashmiri Pandit activist in valley. Kundan Kashmiri, Tej Pandita, M K Raina, Dr H L Saraf, Susheel Bhat and other KPC leaders, while condemning the brutal murder of another KP activist Rakesh Pandit, said that this grave incident has punched and smashed claim of some politicians and political parties in particular BJP J&K, which recently claimed that security situation in Kashmir has improved manifold. KPC leaders appealed to the Home Minister and LG J&K to ensure that culprits and conspirators are punished under law of land. The former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta has also condemned brutal killing of Chairman Municipal Committee Tral, Rakesh Pandit.In a message issued, Kavinder Gupta expressed deep condolences towards the bereaved family members and prayed for peace to the departed soul. He said that sooner than later the death of MC Chairman Tral will be avenged.
