Asian Beach Games postponed again

Long wait for 2 J&K Climbers

JAMMU: Pushed back to April 2021 from original schedule of November-December last, the 6th Asian Beach Games has been postponed for second due to the Covid-19 pandemic, travel restrictions and health protocols.
“Originally scheduled to be held in Sanya City, China from November 28 to December four last 2020 but were pushed back to April 2021. Two sport climbers of J&K, Shivani Charak and Ajay Deep Singh had been selected in the Indian sport climbing team but the uncertainty prevails with organisers announcing yet another postponement of the event,” informed vice president of J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria.
As per the reports reaching here, the decision was taken jointly by the Olympic Council of Asia, the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Sanya Asian Beach Games Organising Committee to reschedule the games.
“It is very unfortunate that Shivani and Ajay Deep who had been preparing for this competition since their last participation in Asian Youth Championship in December, 2019, have lost an opportunity to showcase their climbing skills at the international competition and bring laurels to the Union Territory of J&K and the country,” further said Khajuria.
It may be mentioned here that the Asian Beach Games, also known as ABG, is a very popular multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia and includes about 17 beach sports such as beach volleyball, wrestling, soccer, athletics, aquatics, handball, kabaddi and of course Sport climbing, to name a few.
