POONCH: Village Nambal is one of the remote areas of Poonch District. Most of the villages in the higher reaches of the mountainous terrain have limited access to electricity and after sunset the area plunges into darkness. As a goodwill gesture and in continuance of its commitment to work for welfare society, the Indian Army organized distribution of five solar lights to BPL families at Nambal village, thereby bringing lights to the houses of deprived on the occasion of World Sustainable Energy day. This was also a significant step to make the locals aware of potential of solar energy and to harness the same in these remote villages. This effort of the Indian Army will eventually help in reducing the dependence of villages on Kerosene lanterns, which otherwise are used for lighting in the absence of power supply. Thereby, the initiative promotes the use of renewable, efficient and clean energy for a cleaner environment. The initiative of the Army was greatly appreciated by the locals, who face extreme difficulties due to lack of basic amenities such as electricity in the remote area.
