JAMMU: In continuation to its endeavour to provide best cancer care and treatment, with state-of-the-art technology and expertise of a proficient team, American Oncology Institute at ASCOMS Hospital, Jammu has achieved another milestone last week. Anusha (name changed), a 9 years old girl from Kathua district was complaining of progressively increasing abdominal swelling along with falling appetite resulting in her deteriorating health. Restrictions on movement during lockdown had further delayed child’s evaluation and treatment management, adding to her and her family’s misery. In such difficult times, a premium and Jammu region’s only exclusive Cancer center, American Oncology Institute ASCOMS Hospital, emerged as a ray of hope for family. After examining Anusha’s case, the team of experts at AOI Jammu got to their work. A detailed work-up with CT scan and blood tumor markers by team revealed a huge tumor originating from her right ovary and occupying almost all of her stomach.
The parents were told and explained in detail about the whole treatment plan that would have included 4 chemotherapy cycles followed by oncology surgery. At the hospital, the child received timely chemotherapy under the Auyshman Bharat programme. In her family, positive response to chemotherapy had kindled a lot of hope and the surgical oncology team at AOI Jammu then proceeded to conduct child’s surgery.
The team involved in performing the complex surgery includes Dr Paras Khanna-Surgical Oncologist, Dr Sujeet Bhat- Surgical Oncologist & Dr Atul Sharma, Consultant Anesthesia. Successful care of child was assured by unwavering support provided by the Department of Radiation Oncology at AOI Jammu and the Department of Gynecology at GMC Kathua, along with the support of Swastik Labs and AOI Jammu.
