Akhnoor boxers win 5 medals

JAMMU: Young boxers from Chowki Choura area of the Tehsil Akhnoor made their presence felt winning five medals, including two gold in the just concluded J&K UT Boxing Championship at Boxing Ring of J&K Police, Gulshan Ground, here.
The medal tally for these Akhnoor boxers included two silver and a bronze medal in different weight and age categories. All the medals came for Akhnoor in senior category. These boxers were trained and guided by Gautam Sharma.
“I have set up a make shift coaching facility at my native place of Chowkichora which falls in Tehsil Akhnoor. Boxing is my passion and out of my love for the game I continued to train young boys from my village after the J&K Sports Council disengaged me and other trainers after a year of service with the sports organisation,” boxing trainer, Gautam.
The Medal Winners: Shubam Sharma (46-48 kg), gold; Ashu Sharma (54-56 kg), gold; Dheeraj Sharma (52-54 kg), silver; Mahesh Kumar (60-64 kg), silver; Balbir Singh (69-75 kg), bronze.
