JAMMU: Resentment is brewing over the failure of Airtel company to pay compensation to the family of its deceased employee, who fell victim to electrocution due to lack of safety equipments. The death of Vishal Kalsi, son of Raj Kumar Kalsi, resident of Barnai had triggered massive protests, resulting in the blockade of Jammu-Poonch Highway at Muthi for over three hours on Wednesday.“My bother Vishal was made to work on the line without proper safety-kit and he died,” said Rahul Kalsi, adding the Airtel company is fully responsible for failure to protect the life of its employee.Though the police has taken cognizance of the failure on part of the company and inquest proceedings have been initiated yet the family continues to suffer due to the death of its lone bread earner. Holding Airtel responsible for the death of Vishal, his brother Rahul said “The representatives of Airtel cellular company initially assured compensation telephonically. However, now they have stopped even talking to us on phone.”“We are being given fake assurance of providing compensation by Airtel,” Rahul said, adding “the family members have appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to issue suitable directions to the Airtel company to give suitable compensation to the family. On last Wednesday, hundreds of people including family members, kin and neighbours of the deceased Vishal Kalsi assembled on Jammu-Poonch road at Barnai along with the body and staged a strong protest. They raised slogans against the Airtel Company, stating that the youth died due to negligence of its officials. The blockade allegedly disrupted vehicular traffic for many hours leading to long traffic snarl. The family members lamented over the attitude of the company, saying nobody from the Airtel visited them during this hour of grief, caused due to apathetic and irresponsible behaviour of Airtel.
