ACB nabs Govt official red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 2,000



SRINAGAR: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested Incharge Supervisor (Works), Block Development Office Gund, Kangan, Abdul Rehman Bhat red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000.
As per an official spokesperson, the sleuths of ACB received a complaint through its Whatsapp Helpline from a complainant stating therein that construction of road under MGNREGA scheme worth Rs 1,42,223 was allotted to him on August 12, 2020, which was completed. “The complainant alleged that he received only Rs 1,18,309 out of estimated amount while remaining amount i.e., Rs 23,914 is yet to be released. When he approached concerned office for releasing the same, the I/c Supervisor namely, Abdul Rehman Bhat demanded bribe for the same,” he added.
The official further said that on receipt of complaint, a case vide FIR number 08 of 2021, under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar and investigation was taken up. Accordingly, a trap team was constituted, which laid a successful trap and caught Abdul Rehman Bhat, I/c Supervisor (Works), BDO Office, Gund, red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant. The amount of bribe to the tune of Rs 2,000 was also recovered on the spot. The accused was arrested and taken into custody by ACB, he told, adding that further investigation is under progress.
