Bhadarwah: Seven passengers were killed and 3 others got seriously injured when the mini bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into Kalnai river near Piyakul today afternoon on Thathri-Gandoh road 42 km from Doda town .According to police, the Mini bus (JK06A-6733) was on its way from Doda to Chilli, when reached near Piyakul area in Kahara of District Doda, driver lost control over the steering while negotiating a curve, resulting vehicle rolled down and fell into Kalnai river. Such was the impact of the accident, the vehicle after hitting the boulders, broke into two parts.SP Bhadarwah Raj Singh Gouria and SHO Gandoh Suresh Gautam also reached the spot.SP Bhadarwah Raj Singh Gouria said that Police, Army and locals immediately rushed to the spot and rescued all passengers from the spot and shifted them to Trauma Hospital Thathri, where doctors declared 4 as brought dead.“Five injured persons were shifted to GMC Doda, where two injured woman also succumbed to their injuries, reaching death toll to 5,” SP Gouria added.The deceased have been identified as Yasir Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmed, resident of Dhrouth; Shukar Din, son of Abdul Aziz, resident of Tanta-Kahara; Kali Begum, wife of Abdul Karim, resident of Piyakul; Anju Devi, daughter of Sunil Kumar, resident of Sewa Chirala, Sudesha Devi, wife of Man Singh, resident of Suhanda Shiva and Kali Begum, wife of Lt Mohd Ibrahim, resident of Nagni Dishal.The injured have been identified as Tanveer Ahmed, son of Ali Hussain, resident of Chilly Malath; Abdul Latief, son of Mohd Ibrahim, resident of Chilly; Ghulam Mohd, son of Fatah Mohd, resident of Gali-Bhatoli and Prem Chand, son of Sant Ram, residnet of Bajja Chirala.Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force (IAF) joined the operation to airlift the injured.“A message was received late afternoon regarding a bus that had toppled into the valley near Doda. An IAF helicopter of 130 HU captained by Wing Commander Mukul Khare was immediately pressed into service to rescue the critically injured passengers,” a defence spokesperson said.He said the helicopter swiftly reached the Doda playground from where four injured passengers and seven attendants were embarked. The helicopter got airborne for Jammu. The injured passengers were quickly disembarked into an ambulance and were handed over to the authorities for further treatment, the spokesperson said. He said the IAF responded swiftly and rescued the individuals so that they could get medical attention as soon as possible. Three seriously injured airlifted to GMC Jammu, where one more injured Prem Chand succumbed to his injuries, death toll reach 7.
