5 drug peddlers nabbed with haul of contraband


Jammu: Continuing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse amongst youngsters, Police on Monday nabbed five drug peddlers and recovered haul of contraband from their possession.
As per details, a team from Police Station Peermitha led by SHO Inspr Ajaz Haidar assisted by In-Charge Police Post Gujjar Nagar SI Ayub Khan, during checking at Gujjar Nagar bridge, rounded-up two suspects namely Tushal Gupta, son of Rakesh Gupta, resident of Prem Nagar and Rahul Verma, son of Pawan Kumar, resident of Peer-Kho. On search, 5 rolls of Charas were recovered from them. The duo was arrested and a case vide FIR No.27/2021 under Section 8/20 of NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Peermitha.
Meanwhile, a team of Anti Drug Unit Kathua, while on surprise Naka checking duty, apprehended a person namely Gurnam alias Katta, son of Bui Lal, resident of Chak Drab Khan, District Kathua. On search, police recovered 10 grams of heroin like substance from his possession. He was arrested and a case vide FIR No. 233/2021 under section 8/21/22 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Kathua Police Station.
In another incident, Udhampur police led by Insp Chanchal Singh SHO, under the supervision of Sahil Mahajan DySP Hqrs. Udhampur, recovered 10 gm contraband substance (Chitta), a weighing machine and cash amounting to Rs 20,000 from a narcotic smuggler during patrolling near Subash Stadium Udhampur. The accused, identified as Akhilesh Sharma alias Leshi, son of Vipin Kumar, resident of Ward No. 2, opposite SBI Udhampur, was arrested on the spot and a case vide FIR No. 153/2021 under Sections 8/21/22/27 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Udhampur. Kupwara police also nabbed a drug peddler and recovered 80 gm heroin from his possession. The accused was identified as Ghulam Bhatt, resident of Avaroo.
