5-day Sport Climbing camp begins


JAMMU: A five days sport Climbing training camp commenced today at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in the premises of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu. The camp is being conducted by Tawi Trekkers J&K and fully sponsored by Takshila Educational Trust, the governing body for Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu.
The camp was inaugurated by Arti Sharma, Principal of Apple Kids, Bantalab Jammu in the presence of Chairman and Secretary of Takshila Educational Trust Rahul Sharma and Ramesh Khajuria respectively.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included president and secretary of Tawi Trekkers Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria respectively; vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Sumit Khajuria; senior member Sonam Sidharth and some staff members of Sprawling Buds ICSE School including Seema Sharma, Heena Nayyar, Isha Singh, Monika Sharma and Satish Bhan.
“The purpose of the camp in which about 30 boys and girls in the age group of 10 to 15 years are participating is to promote sport climbing, an Olympic discipline, among J&K youth in general and to prepare outstanding climbers for selection in the Indian team for next year’s Asian Games to be held at Hangzhou, China. The club plans to conduct such camps for a longer duration, every month,” informed Ram Khajuria.
During the camp, players have been issued strict guidelines with regard to Covid-19 guidelines. The event is being conducted under the overall supervision of Shawetica Khajuria, general secretary of the Association and an international judge of sport climbing. Whereas Shivani Charak, an international medalist along with another international climber Arun Deep shall impart necessary training to the participants, Vishali Sharma and Sakshi Magotra shall be the route setters cum belayers of the training camp.
