5 arrested for illegal mining, transportation of raw material


SRINAGAR/JAMMU: Taking tough action against illegal mining activities and transportation of raw materials, Police on Thursday arrested five persons and seized vehicles in Handwara and Khour. Officers from Police Post Langate arrested a person and seized his vehicle (JK03G-4560) which was used to transport raw materials illegally extracted from Nallah Mawar. The accused was identified as Javid Ahmad Mir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Gulgam Kupwara. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 77/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Handwara and further investigation has been initiated. Meanwhile, Police Station Khour registered an FIR regarding theft of mining material from Khads and Nallah under jurisdiction of Police Station Khour on complaint of District Mining Office (DMO) Jammu. The District Mining Office lodged a complaint on basis of a report of Committee constituted to check illegal mining in area wherein it was submitted that minor minerals have been stolen by unknown persons from Nallahs and Khads. Accordingly a team from Police Station Khour led by Insp Balwinder Singh, taking cognizance of the matter, registered an FIR under relevant sections of law. Special teams were constituted and in liaison with mining department officers, investigation started. Subsequently, four persons namely Malkeet Kumar, resident of Dokh Khalsa; Sanjay Kumar, resident of Dhok Jagir; Vikas Sharma, resident of Dhok Jagir and Ashok Kumar, resident of Reasi were arrested along with stolen minerals.
