KATHUA/NAGROTA: Police on Sunday foiled two bovine smuggling bids by rescuing 40 bovines and arrested a smuggler.
In first instance, a police team led by Insp Amit Sangra, SHO Rajbagh under the supervision of SDPO Border Sachit Mahajan while on Naka checking duty in its jurisdictional area, intercepted a Truck (JK02AL-0541), which was signaled to stop. Sensing danger, driver of vehicle tried to escape but was nabbed by police party. During checking of vehicle, 14 bovines were found laden in vehicle, which were rescued. The driver, identified as Mohd Yaqoob, son of Jamal Din, resident of Saral, Tehsil Haveli, District Poonch was arrested and FIR No. 09/2022 under section 188 of IPC, 11 of PCA Act was registered at Police Station Rajbagh.
In another action, a team led by Insp Rajinder Khajuria Incharge Police Post Industrial Estates Kathua under supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua, Shammi Kumar during Naka checking duty at NHW Sakta Chak, noticed a suspicious truck (JK02AL-0541) and signaled it to stop for checking. Sensing danger, driver of vehicle managed to flee leaving behind the vehicle abandoned. On thorough checking, 13 bovines were found loaded on it which were rescued along with seizure of vehicle. FIR No. 20/2022 under section 188 of IPC, 11 of PCA Act was registered at Police Station Kathua. Thus, overall 27 bovines were rescued while a smuggler was arrested.
Meanwhile, Nagrota Police also rescued 13 bovines from a vehicle (JK02AT/3769) during Naka checking at Ban Toll Plaza Nagrota. FIR No 19/2022 under section 188 of IPC, 11 of PCA was registered at Police Station Nagrota. The arrests and recoveries were made by SHO Nagrota Insp Vishav Pratap Singh.
