KATHUA: Police on Tuesday nabbed four bootleggers and recovered 149 bottles of liquor from their possession.As per details, a police team led by Insp Rajesh Kumar Incharge Police Post Nagri under supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua Shammi Kumar during patrolling/Naka checking duty near Saidpura Toll Naka, intercepted a scooty (JK08D-3038). During checking, 12 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the possession of accused namely Bhag Hussain, son of Shah Din, resident of Chak Desa Singh Tehsil & District Kathua. The scooty was also seized and accused was arrested. FIR No 287/2021 under section 50 of Excise Act, 188 of IPC was registered against him at Police Station Kathua.Meanwhile, a party of Police Station Ramgarh, while performing patrolling duty in its jurisdictional area, received an information regarding sale of illicit liquor in Nandpur area. Acting swiftly, police rushed to the spot and apprehended a person from village Nandpur, who was selling illicit liquor to general public at exorbitant rates to gain illegitimate profit. While frisking, a total of 41 bottles of Desi Whisky (180 ml each) were recovered. The accused, identified as Lucky Kumar, son of Prem Nath, resident of Makhanpur Tehsil Bishnah District Jammu, was arrested on spot and illicit liquor was also seized. A case FIR No. 49/2021 under section 48 (A) Excise Act was registered at Police Station Ramgarh.In a similar incident, a party of Police Station Ghagwal intercepted a person moving towards Kathua on a bike (JK08E-8747) and during checking, a total of 36 bottles of Desi Whisky (180ml each) were recovered. The accused, identified as Ram Paul, son of Bodh, resident of UP at present Hiranagar, was arrested on the spot and contraband item was also seized. FIR No. 126/2021 under section 48 (A) of Excise Act was registered against him at Police Station Ghagwal.Later, a party of Police Station Vijaypur on reliable information regarding sale of illicit liquor in Vijaypur area, arrested a person namely Ashok Singh, son of Jotam Singh, resident of Gagore, Vijaypur who was selling illicit liquor to the general public at exorbitant rates to gain illegitimate profit. A total of 50 bottles of whisky (180 ml each) were recovered from the possession of accused. FIR No. 95/2021 under section 48 (F) Excise Act was registered against him at Police Station Vijaypur.
