KATHUA/SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday arrested four bootleggers and recovered 151 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession.
As per details, a team from Police Station Hiranagar led by Insp Anil Kumar Sharma SHO Hiranagar under supervision of SDPO Border Sachit Mahajan during Naka checking at its jurisdictional area apprehended two persons namely Kamal, son of Bansi Lal, resident of Bhajoka Chak, Tehsil Hiranagar and Surinder Kumar, son of Des Raj, resident of Dyalachak Tehsil Hiranagar. During checking, 85 bottles of Desi Whisky (180 ml each) and 36 bottles (250 ml each) (illicit liquor) were recovered from their possession.
Meanwhile in another incident, the aforesaid police party apprehended another suspect namely Sham Lal, son of Dilharan, resident of Ward No. 13 Hatli Morh Kathua. On checking, 15 bottles of Desi whisky (illicit liquor) of 750 ml each were recovered, thus making a total of overall 136 bottles of illicit liquor. The trio was arrested and FIR Nos 78 and 79/2021 under Sections 48(a) of Excise Act was registered against them at Police Station Hiranagar.
In another incident, a party from Police Station Qazigund led by SHO Qazigund at a checkpoint established at Damjen crossing on NHW intercepted a suspicious person who tried to escape from spot, however alert Police party tactfully apprehended him. He was identified as Basharat Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh, resident of Checki Rajwali Vessu.
On checking, 15 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession. He was arrested and shifted to police station where he remained in custody. A case FIR number 134/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was initiated.
