KATHUA: In its continuous efforts to eradicate menace of bovine smuggling from the society, District Police under overall supervision of SSP Kathua, R C Kotwal succeeded in foiling bovine smuggling attempt within district on Monday and rescued 28 bovines. 6 smugglers were also arrested by the Police.
As per details, on May 17, 2021 a party from Police Station Lakhanpur while on Naka checking duty noticed a truck (JK02X-5413) enroute Jammu, which was being driven by some unknown person. The team signaled the driver to stop for checking, but on seeing Naka party, the driver stopped vehicle far behind the Naka point and fled away. On checking, police found 12 bovines brutally tied with ropes in a cruel manner, inside the vehicle, which were being smuggled. They were rescued on the spot and accordingly a case vide FIR No. 68/2021 under Sections 188 of IPC and 11 of PCA Act was registered at Police Station Lakhanpur. While in another instance, a team from Police Station Basohli during Naka checking duty, intercepted 4 suspected Mahindra load-carriers (JK08J-2585, JK08D-5989, JK08J-2595 and PB08EG-0253). On checking, 16 bovines were found loaded in aforesaid vehicles, thus taking total to 28 bovines, which were rescued by District Police. 6 persons, who were arrested by Police, have been identified as Masoom Ali, resident of Bani; Mohd. Bika, resident of Jalandhar; Talib Hussain, resident of Sathi Bani; Mohd. Yaseen, resident of Bani; Ganesh Kumar, resident of Bani and Muzafar Hussain, resident of Bani. A case vide FIR No. 33/2021 under Sections 188 of IPC and 11 of PCA Act was registered against them at Police Station Basholi.
