2 truckers nabbed with 204 Kg poppy straw



UDHAMPUR/BANIHAL: Continuing drive against drug peddlers, Police on Wednesday apprehended two truckers and seized 204 Kg poppy straw from their vehicles.
As per details, a team of Police Station Udhampur led by Chanchal Singh SHO Police Station Udhampur under the supervision of Sahil Mahajan DySP Hqrs. Udhampur laid a Naka at Jakhani Chowk NH for checking.
During checking, police recovered 155 Kg of poppy straw like substance from a truck (JK05A-0245). The driver, namely Mukesh Kumar, son of Mani Ram, resident of Pouni Reasi tried to flee from spot but was chased and intercepted by alert team. A case vide FIR No. 150/2021 under Sections 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Udhampur.
Meanwhile, during routine Naka checking at T-Chowk Banihal, a party of Police Station Banihal intercepted a truck (HP33B-9790) for checking. 49 Kg of poppy straw was recovered from vehicle. The accused driver, who on questioning disclosed his identity as Darminder Singh, son Manjeet Singh, resident of Nuvgjja, District Jalandhar (Punjab) was arrested on spot and a case vide FIR No. 85/2021 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Banihal.
